Friends of the Chicago River Exploration Day – In-Person STEM Day
Join us for an exciting and educational in-person STEM day with Friends of the Chicago River at LaBagh Woods!
- Located at: 5275 N. Cicero Ave., north of W. Foster Ave., Chicago, IL.
Participants will have the opportunity to take part in several hands-on activity rotations:
- River water chemistry testing using water quality monitoring test kits and probes to assess the water quality of the Chicago River
- Macroinvertebrate (small, backboneless organisms living in the water) collection and identification to determine the quality of the river
- A stewardship litter pick-up activity to improve the LaBagh Woods natural area
Join us and give back to the community while learning more about environmentalism, stewardship, and the Chicago River ecosystem. No previous experience required!
Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
Be sure to wear closed-toed shoes, long pants, and work clothes that can get dirty. Tie your hair back -or wear a hat and bring a full water bottle. Ticks can be a concern when working in brushy areas, so long pants and sleeves are encouraged. If you have work/garden gloves, please bring those as well to help us limit the number of single-use gloves we use.
