In 2024, 60 young women from each location were invited to attend the Exelon Foundation STEM Academy in Chicago (University of Illinois), Washington DC/Maryland (University of Maryland), Philadelphia (Drexel University), and a new expansion this year in Baltimore (University of Maryland, Baltimore County). Participants spent the week learning about energy and sustainability, meeting employees and executives who work in STEM, and developing valuable leadership skills.

In 2023, 60 young women from each location were invited to attend the Exelon Foundation STEM Academy in Chicago (University of Illinois), Philadelphia (Drexel University), Washington DC/Maryland (University of Maryland) for a week of learning about energy and sustainability, meeting employees and executives who work in STEM, and developing valuable leadership skills. The participants then worked together to design an innovated or new product for their weeklong challenge that are then presented to a panel of judges.

In 2022, 60 young women from each location were invited to attend the Exelon Foundation STEM Leadership Academy in Chicago (Illinois Institute of Technology), Philadelphia (Drexel University), Washington DC/Maryland (University of Maryland) for a week of learning about energy and sustainability, meeting employees and executives who work in STEM, and developing valuable leadership skills. The participants then worked together to design a product and business for their weeklong challenge that are then presented to a panel of judges.

Virtual
In 2021, The Exelon Foundation STEM Leadership Academies continued online. Over 170 young women from the DC, Maryland, Philadelphia, and the Chicagoland area participated in the Virtual Exelon Foundation STEM Leadership Academies. From personal branding to interactive meetings with Exelon employees and executives, and hands-on sustainability activities. Throughout the week these learned skill sets prepared our participants to developing and presenting a solution to a real-world STEM challenge with a small group of fellow participants, Academy attendees enjoyed a fun, fast paced, engaging, and rewarding experience.
2020
Virtual
In 2020, The Exelon STEM Academies moved online. Over 180 young women from the DC, Maryland, Philadelphia, and Chicagoland area participated in the Virtual Exelon STEM Innovation + Leadership Academies. From interactive meetings with Exelon employees and executives, and hands-on energy and sustainability activities to preparing and presenting a solution to a real-world STEM challenge with a small group of fellow participants, Academy attendees enjoyed a fun, fast paced, interactive and rewarding experience.

In 2019, 60 young women in each location were invited to attend the Exelon STEM Innovation + Leadership Academy in Chicago (Illinois Institute of Technology), Philadelphia (Drexel University), and Washington DC/Maryland (University of Maryland) for a week of learning about energy and sustainability, meeting women who work in STEM and Exelon executives passionate about increasing the number of women in STEM, and working together on an energy efficiency challenge presented at the end of the week to a panel of judges.

In its inaugural year, the Exelon STEM Innovation + Leadership Academy reached over 100 young women in Chicago, Washington D.C. and Maryland. Participants lived on campus at the Illinois Institute of Technology and University of Maryland engaging in educations lessons, career seminars, and a week-long energy challenge. In addition to on campus activities, participants visited local energy sites and met with Exelon staff and executives.
